NSF project “Measuring and Mapping IDR” Presentations

Researchers of the NSF project “Measuring and Mapping IDR” project will make various presentations in the Science and Technology Indicators Conference to be held in Leiden (Netherlands) on September 8-11th 2010. These include a study on the relation between degree of interdisciplinarity and academic impact , on interdisciplinarity of journals and a mixed survey-bibliometrics method to explore interdisciplinarity in organisations.

Collective Project from 2009 ISSI

The 2009 ISSI Workshop (see under “Prior Events”) suggested a small, collective project. Let’s identify a smallish dataset to share, on which to compare multiple IDR measures and maps. We are brewing up a possible set at Georgia Tech, but welcome yours as well.
Tracking and evaluating interdisciplinary research: metrics and maps

Workshop of the 12th ISSI Conference, Rio de Janeiro July 14th.
This workshop aimed to contrast perspectives on how to measure and map interdisciplinary research, exploring recent advances on three research fronts:
- Conceptualizations and associated measures of interdisciplinarity, e.g. in terms of knowledge integration, network analyses, and disciplinary diversity.
- Varied approaches to visualize (map) the relative position of bodies of research, ranging from that of an investigator to an emerging field.
- Assessment of the benefits and downsides of interdisciplinary research (e.g., on citation impact), and the ensuing science policy implications.
